Forest fire death toll mounts to 22 in TN

Madurai, Apr 3 (UNI) The death toll in massive forest fire in Theni district of Tamil Nadu on March 11 increased to 22 with a 26-year-old woman trekker succumbing to burn injuries at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here on Tuesday.

Official sources said deceased M Sivasankari, hailing from Tirupur district, sustained more than 50 per cent burn injuries in the forest fire and had been undergoing treatment at the GRH, where she died this morning.

Ten people were killed and 17 others sustained burn injuries, when two trekking expedition groups, consisting of 36-member caught in a major wildfire atop the Kolukkumalai Hills in Kurangani forest area in the Western Ghats.
