Mumbai, Dec 10 (UNI) Railway stations on Mumbai’s Central Railway (CR) network are set to get 25 lifts , 52 escalators and eight water vending machines by March 2018.
The lifts will be installed on the various stations of the Central line, while the addition to the above facilities will be placed preferably at busy stations like CSMT, Dadar, Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan, said an official from the Central Railway.
The facilities will be installed at stations like Kasara, Titwala, Diva, Nahur, Karjat, Kalwa stations of the Main line, while on the Harbour line, the amenities will be available at Chembur, Vadala road, Panvel, Mankhurd and Sewri stations, the official added.
At present, there are 13 lifts, 22 escalators and around 60 water vending machines.
The lifts and escalators will help senior citizens experience smooth commuting. The railway authority should also focus on installation of two sided escalators, leading commuters to the platforms. As of now, there are escalators only to climb onto the bridges, said Sudhir Badami, transport expert.
The installations of these equipment, specially lifts and escalators will help reduce the crowd on platforms during peak hours.
