20 people, including 12 Security personnel, injured in Srinagar clashes

Srinagar, Apr 24 (UNI) At least 20 people, including 12 security personnel, three of them officers, were injured in clashes in summer capital, Srinagar, where colleges opened after about a week. A police spokesman said three officers were among 12 security and police personnel injured in the stone pelting by students in the city, where normal life came to a halt in the civil lines after the clashes. He said this evening that as colleges reopened in the valley, students were attending classes normally in S P School and in Women's College at Moulana Azad (MA) Road Srinagar. However, just after about an hour of class work, some miscreants from different places entered the premises of school and created disturbances. He said the miscreants alongwith some students blocked M A road because of which hundreds of vehicles got stranded on this ever busy road and adjacent chowks. The Police and security forces personnel reached the spot, he said adding the demonstrators pelted stones due to which many police and security forces personnel were injured. The stone pelting created panic in the area after which many shopkeepers closed their shops. Some vehicles were damaged. The miscreants and the students pelted stones on Traffic Headquarters and attacked police vehicles with stones clubs and lathis, he said. The police showed utmost restraint, the spokesman said adding 12 personnel, including three officers, were injured in the stone pelting. Some boys involved in stone pelting were caught on the spot and detained by Police. The mob was dispersed and the normalcy was restored in the area. More UNI BAS RSA SHK 2055
