20  killed, 15 injured as lorry runs over people

Tirupati Apr 21 (UNI) In a ghastly accident, 20 people were killed and 15 others injured when a lorry ran over people who stood in front of a police station at Yerpedu village, about 20 km from here today. Chitoor Urban SP Jayalakshmi told media that as many as 100 farmers and villagers of Munagapalam village went to the police station to stage dharna in protest against illegal sand extraction at their village. When they were speaking to the Circle Inspector and Sub-inspector, in front of the police station, a speeding lorry with a high speed ran over them. Later the lorry rammed against a high tension electric pole near Saptagiri Gramin Bank and came to a halt after hitting road side eateries. MORE UNI DP CS 1605
