IPL 2020: Iyer, Shaw power DC to 228-4 against KKR

Sharjah, Oct 3 (UNI) Riding on a scintillating knock by captain Shreyas Iyer (88 off 38) and fine fifty by Prithvi Shaw (66 off 41), Delhi Capitals posted a mammoth total of 228-4 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 16th match of the IPL 2020 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, here on Saturday.
Apart from Iyer and Prithvi, Rishabh Pant (38 off 17) and Shikhar Dhawan (26 off 16) also played crucial innings and helped Delhi Capitals post the highest total of the IPL 2020 season so far.
After being invited to bat first by KKR captain Dinesh Karthik, openers Shikhar Dhawan gave Delhi Capitals a flying start. DC registered their best powerplay score of the season, posting 57 in 6 overs.
Shaw and Dhawan stitched a 56-run stand for the first wicket before left-handed batsman lost his wicket in the final over of the powerplay to Varun Chakravarthy. He ended up scoring 26 off 16 balls, with 2 boundaries and as many sixes.
After Dhawan's wicket, skipper Shreyas Iyer joined Prithvi at the middle. Both Prithvi and Iyer didn’t lose momentum and continued their hard-hitting.
The partnership between Shaw and captain Shreyas Iyer was looking dangerous but KKR get a timely wicket. Kamlesh Nagarkoti got the big wicket of Prithvi Shaw who made a fine 66.
Rishabh Pant walked in to accompany his captain in the middle. Iyer took the onus and played the accelerator's role in his partnership with Pant and got to his 50 off 26 balls, which was also his fastest fifty in the IPL.
On the other hand, Pant also joined the party and smashed few boundaries before getting out to Russell for quickfire 38 off 17.
Marcus Stoinis, who came to bat next got out to Russell in the first ball of the last over. Hetmyer came in at 6, hit a six and took DC to 228/4 after 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer, batting on 88, did not get to face a single ball in the final over.
Varun Chakravarthy 1/49, Andre Russell 2/29, Kamlesh Nagarkoti 1/35 were the wicket takers for KKR.
