Switzerland hands out knockout punch to defending champs Italy 2-0

Berlin, June 29 (UNI) Switzerland knocked out defending champions Italy with a sensational 2-0 victory here on Saturday, marking a historic moment in the UEFA Euro 2024 Round of 16.
After a tense opening half-hour, Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler broke the deadlock in the 37th minute, skillfully navigating through the Italian defense to score the first goal.
The Swiss fans erupted in cheers as Freuler’s shot found the back of the net, giving Switzerland a crucial lead before halftime. The lead was doubled early in the second half when Ruben Vargas, who had assisted the first goal, fired a stunning shot past the Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, securing Switzerland's advantage and sending their supporters into a frenzy.
