Mumbai, Dec 4 (UNI) India reduced New Zealand to 38/6 at tea on day two of the second Test match here at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday.
While Mohammed Siraj took three wickets, spinners Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jayant Yadav picked up a piece each.
The fast bowler Siraj, who was itching to go, dismissed Will Young. The New Zealand opener edged and Virat Kohli caught him at the second slip. Four balls later, Siraj struck again and got rid of the stand-in captain Tom Latham.
Siraj returned to knock over veteran Ross Taylor, reducing the visiting side to 17/3.
The India captain switched to spin and handed the ball to Axar Patel.
India spinners, too, joined the party, starting with Axar who got Daryl Mitchell leg-before. Ashwin bowled Henry Nicholls and Jayant dismissed Rachin Ravindra on the stroke of tea.
Earlier, the left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel took the perfect 10 as New Zealand bundled out India for 325. Ajaz became the only third bowler after England's Jim Laker (10/53 against Australia in 1956) and India's Anil Kumble (10/74 against Pakistan in 1999) to claim the 10-wicket haul.
Ajaz also became the first Kiwi to take all 10 wickets, bettering Sir Richard Hadlee’s 9/52 against trans-tasman rival Australia in 1985.
Mayank Agarwal registered 150 off 310 balls post-lunch but on the next ball the India opener was caught behind. However, Axar stood tall and smashed a maximum to bring up the 300-run mark for India.
The left-hander Axar along with Jayant (12), who made a comeback to India squad, dragged the hosts to 325. Along the way, Axar brought up his first Test half-century off 113 balls.
