Kolkata, Oct 27 (UNI) Leading the bowling attack, Ishan Porel bagged an impressive 3 for 18 as Bengal reduced Kerala to 51/4 at stumps on Day two in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C clash at the JU 2nd Campus Ground, Salt Lake here on Sunday.
"Good to get four wickets after the start. Hope we can capitalize on this tomorrow. It is good to see the bowlers with positive mindset and application," head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said after the day's play.
Pradipta Pramanik (1-8) also impressed with the ball.
Avilin Ghosh and Shuvam Dey made their debuts for Bengal. Avilin received his cap from skipper Anustup Majumdar, while Shuvam got his cap from Bengal veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha.
Opting to bowl after winning the toss, Bengal pace battery of Ishan and Md Kaif were lethal with the new ball.
In 15.1 overs bowled in the day, Kerala batters found the going tough as Ishan removed Rohan Kunnummal (23) and Baba Aparajith (0) in successive balls to reduce Kerala to 33/2.
Then, Pradipta got rid off Sarvate (5), followed by Ishan claiming his third to put Kerala in trouble at 38/4.
Skipper Sachin Baby (4) and Akshay Chandran (9) remained unbeaten at stumps for the visitors.
