Ravi Shastri launches Sandeep Patil - Beyond Boundaries

Mumbai, Nov 7 (UNI) Former India all-rounder and Head Coach Ravi Shastri has launched the book ‘Sandeep Patil - Beyond Boundaries’ with Clayton Murzello, at Cricket Club of India here.
Sachin Bajaj, founder Global Cricket School, who has been instrumental in bringing out the book, was present on the occasion on Wednesday.
Sandeep Patil was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team and played for domestic giants Mumbai.
Patil is a former India cricketer and a renowned coach. Patil, a right-handed batter, played 29 Tests and 45 ODIs, scoring 1588 and 1005 runs respectively. He also played 130 first-class matches and, post his retirement, served as Chief Selector from 2012 to 2016.
Apart from Mumbai, Patil played for Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, he coached the Indian team and Kenya team. In his coaching tenure, the Kenyan team reached the semi-final of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup played in South Africa.
On the launch of the book, Patil said, “I am delighted that my journey as a cricketer, coach, and Chief Selector has been well articulated in this book. This book highlights most of the milestone events in my life and provides cricket enthusiasts with interesting anecdotes from my years playing multiple roles in this great sport.”
“It has indeed been an exciting journey and the support of my friends, family, and teammates made it a memorable one,” Patil added.
Shastri is a noted broadcaster, and was also head coach of the India team while Virat Kohli was at the helm.
Shastri, part of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team, was effusive in his praise for Patil, with whom he shared the dressing room. Shastri and Patil were also roommates, and their time together — both on and off the field — lends much heft to this book.
During the launch, Shastri said, “He is one the best hard-hitters of the ball and could send it a long way. Sandeep is a very versatile character and it is lovely to share lots of memories with him. I am certain the book will be an interesting read for everyone and will be enjoyed by all.”
The event was attended by Former Indian Captain Dilip Vengsarkar; Cricket Legend Sunil Gavaskar; Indian Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar; Indian Former Test Cricketer Balwinder Sandhu and numerous former cricketers from the fraternity.
Clayton Murzello, cricket writer and co-author of the book, said “I am delighted to be part of Sandeep Patil's exciting life and cricketing career. The entire process of writing this book was very enjoyable and educative, especially because there was total cooperation from everyone associated with this wonderful project.”
The book, ‘Sandeep Patil – Beyond Boundaries’ with Clayton Murzello, can be purchased from Amazon India.
