Manchester, Aug 6 (UNI) Opener Shan Masood's excellent century (156 off 319) led Pakistan to 326 all out in their first innings against England on the second day of the first test at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Masood shared a 105-run 6th wicket stand with Shadab Khan to nullify England's advantage of the first session. Pakistan were able to add just 48 runs in the first session and lost the wickets of Babar Azam (69), Asad Shafiq (7) and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan (9).
Masood got to his hundred in the 251st ball he faced in the series opener, as he showcased a tremendous amount of concentration and grit.
He scored his 4th Test hundred, third consecutive in the longest format of the game. He became only the second Pakistan opener after Mudassar Nazar in 1983 to score 3 successive Test hundreds.
During the process, Masood also became the first Pakistan opener since Saeed Anwar in 1996 to score a Test hundred in England.
He is only the sixth opener from Asia to score a hundred in England, since 2010. Only Rahul Dravid, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Tamim Iqbal, and Tilakaratne Dilshan have done so in the said period.
Jofra Archer picked up two wickets in two balls to bring England back in the contest along with spinner Dom Bess who sent back Shadab Khan for 45.
For England, Broad and Archer finished with a three-wicket haul each. Woakes ended up with two, while Anderson and Dom Bess picked one wicket apiece.
