Birmingham, Jun 30 (UNI) Mohammad Shami's fine bowling spell 5/69 restricted England at 337/7 in 50 overs
in the ICC Cricket World Cup on Sunday.
For England, Bairstow brilliant century 111 off 109 (10 fours, 6 sixes), Ben stokes 79 off 54 (6 fours, 3 sixes), Jason Roy 66 off 57 ( 7 fours, 2 sixes) and Joe Root 44 off 54 helped England reach 337 after losing 7 wickets.
Plunkett (1), and Archer (0) remained unbeaten.
Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bat with Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow started magnificently with 160 run stand for first wicket as duo smashed Indian bowlers for fours and sixes.
In the 17th over, Jason Roy came with a fine half century on comeback in Kuldeep Yadav's spell.
India desperately needed a wicket to dismantle the partnership which was going strong between Roy and
Bairstow.
Then in 23rd over, Kuldeep Yadav gave a major breakthrough picking wicket of Roy when Ravindra Jadeja
pulled off a blinder at long-on. Roy 66 off 57 ( 7 fours, 2 sixes). England's first wicket fell at 160.
With Roy's exit ,Bairstow and Joe Root further chipped in another 45 run stand for the second wicket.
In 26th over, Bairstow came with his first World Cup century when he pulled of Hardik Pandya for a single at
deep square.
Then Mohammad Shami picked crucial wicket of dangerman Bairstow in 32nd over when caught at deep point
by Rishabh Pant. Bairstow innings ended with 111 off 109 (10 fours, 6 sixes).
India fought hard and came back with 24 of the last 40 balls were dots, which led to fall of wicket.
Bairstow gone then came skipper Eion Morgan and along with Joe Root added just 2 runs before skipper
went down to Shami picking his second important wicket in 34th over after Jadhav did really well running
around from the fine leg to take the catch diving forward. Morgan scored 1 off 9 balls.
In the 40th over, Chahal proved expensive as he conceded 15 runs. In the next over England came
with 250.
Joe Root and Ben Stokes also played a good knock adding 70 runs on board for fourth wicket and were
looking solid but it was Shami again breaking the partnership scalping his third wicket in form of Root caught
by Pandya in 45th over. Root fell six runs short of his half century after scoring 44 off 54 (2 fours).
In the same over, Stokes came with his half century (51) his third in a row in this World Cup.
England raced to 300 in the 47th over, but then Shami was smashed for four and six by Buttler but then in the next spell he picked his fourth wicket another beauty when caught and bold Buttler in the same over. Buttler
20 off 8 ( 1 four, 2 sixes).
Shami took his fifth wicket in 49th over of first ball of Woakes at 7 (1 four).
Bumrah scalped seventh wicket in form of Ben Stokes in last over of 4th ball at 79 off 54 ( 6 fours, 3 sixes)
restricting England to 337/7 in 50 overs.
Mohammad Shami 5/69, Bumrah 1/44, Kuldeep Yadav 1/72 were the wicket-takers for India.
