Mumbai emerge victorious in low scoring match, wins by 14 runs against Delhi

Mumbai, Apr 22 (UNI) Dominant Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Daredevils and maintained their winning streak as they won the match by 14 runs at Wankhede Stadium here today. Mumbai sealed their spot at the table top with 12 points from seven games. Winning the toss, Delhi opted to field first. Delhi bowled well to restrict Mumbai at 142 runs for eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. But the Daredevils couldn't manage to bag the game due to early blows. Big guns at the top order failed to score as Delhi was reduced to 24 for six in just seven overs. Aditya Tare (0) was the first to fall in the fourth ball of their innings, followed by Sanju Samson (9) in the next over. Delhi's top order fell like a house of cards as Shreyas Iyer (6), Corey Anderson (0), Rishabh Pant (0) and Karun Nair (5) were all back at the pavilion within six overs. Delhi was lingering at 24 for six when the South African all rounder duo Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris came to bat. The duo steadied Delhi's innings to bring the visitors back in the game. But the cautious play went in vain as they failed to capitalize Mumbai's bowling attack. With mounting pressure, Delhi needed 30 runs from the last two overs. Rabada (44) fell prey to Bumrah's slower deliver and was bowled. With Pat cummins at the crease, Morris couldn't do much either. Delhi required 25 of the last over, but Hardik Pandya's bowling kept the visitors at bay, thus giving Mumbai their sixth straight win. Morris remained unbeaten at 52. For Mumbai, Mitchell McClenaghan finished with the figures of 3 for 24 while Bumrah scalped 2 wickets conceding 21 runs. Hardik Pandya had 1 wicket under his belt giving 23 runs. Earlier in the first innings Mumbai was sent to bat by Delhi after they won the toss. Mumbai opener Jos Buttler (28) gave the hosts a solid start as Parthiv Patel (8) supported him well. But wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals as in form Nitish Rana (8) failed to impress today. Rohit Sharma's (5) batting woes continued as he couldnt kept going. Mumbai's middle order tried to notch up the score as Kieron Pollard (26), Krunal Pandya (17) and Hardik Pandya (24) contributed well to put up the defending total of 142 runs on board. Delhi did well in fielding as they picked three run outs in the game. For the visitors Amit Mishra and Pat Cummins scalped two wickets each and Rabada bagged one. UNI XC-RSD 0052
