India lock horns with Pak in exciting T20 clash as weightlifters aim to continue medal rush

Birmingham, July 31 (UNI) India women's cricket team will on Sunday face Pakistan in a blockbuster T20 clash as Indian weightlifters aim to continue with their push for a medal further on Day 3 of 2022 Commonwealth Games here.
After facing defeat at the hands of Australia in their opener, India will lock horns with arch rivals Pakistan. India has to win this match to stay in contention.
India's Men's hockey team also opens their campaign against Ghana later in the day.
On day 2 of the Games, India began their push for a medal as they ended an excellent day by bagging four medals.
As expected the star-studded weightlifting team opened the account of India with Sanket Sargar clinching the silver medal on Saturday before superstar Mirabai Chanu notched up first gold at the Games.
Gururaja Poojari claimed bronze, Bindyarani Devi finished off with a brilliant day with a silver medal.
Sargar won silver medal in Men's 55kg weightlifting and Karnataka’s Gururaja claimed bronze in Men’s 61kg in the morning session.
Golden girl and Tokyo Olympic Games silver medallist, Mirabai bagged gold in the 49kg division by beating her contenders by a distance and creating a Games record.
A former World Champion in 49kg, Mirabai easily retained the gold medal she won in Gold Coast in 2018.
Sargar missed on giving india their second gold as he was distraught with an injury during clean and jerk section of the Men's 55kg contest and lost out on the top slot by just 1 kg. He could not complete the 139kg lift as he could bear the pain.
The 22-year-old Sargar from the Maharshtra's Sangli lifted an aggregate of 248 kg but was beaten by Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq bin Kasdan.
Gururaja claimed India’s second medal of the day when he gave his best in a new weight class to bag a bronze medal.
The newly married 27-year-old Junior Warrant Officer (JWO) in the India Air Force had to leave his wife and family to concentrate on training.
Bindyarani authored a CWG record with 116kg lift in clean and jerk round and also sketched her personal best. She lifted a total of 202kg to clinch silver.
