Thoothukudi, Nov 26 (UNI) Heavy to very overnight rains battered
Southern and Delta districts of Tamil Nadu under the influence of
A Cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal on Friday, leading
to flooding and water logging in several residential areas affecting
normal life.
Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi district recorded extremely heavy
rainfall of 31 cm in the last 24 hrs ending at 0830 hrs this morning.
This is the highest amount of rain received in the State during the
past 24 hrs.
It was followed by Thoothukudi 27 cm, Tiruchendur (25), Nagapattinam
(19), Srivaikuntam (18), Kulasekarapattinam (16), Vaippar (15),
Tiruvaiyaru, Sathankulam, Ottapidaram, Pelandurai and Karaikal
(Union Territory of Puducherry) 12 cm each, Tirubhuvanam, Srimushnam,
Sattur, Peravurani, Palayamkottai and Labbaikudikadu 11 cm each,
Dindigul, Tiruvarur, Budalur, Agaram Seegur, Vembakottai and
Sivaganga 10 cm each.
Talking to newsmen after inspecting the rain-affected areas,
Thoothukudi district collector K.Senthil Raj said 187 motor
pumps and two earth movers were deployed for draining out
flood water from the residential and low lying areas.
Reports reaching here said several parts of the Central and
Delta districts, including Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthura, Tiruvarur,
Thanjavur, Tiruchirapalli experienced moderate to heavy rains.
