Chennai, Nov 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday
announced formation of a six-member Ministerial team to assess the extent
of crop damages in the Cauvery delta districts in view of the heavy rains.
An official release here said Co-operation Minister I.Periyasamy will head
the team, which also comprises Industries Minister Thangam Thennarasu,
Rural Development Minister K.R. Periakaruppan, Law Minister S.Regupathy,
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Sports and Youth
Welfare Minister Siva V. Meyyanathan.
The Chief Minister has directed the team to visit the Cauvery delta districts
immediately and submit a report after assessing the extent of damage/losses
caused to standing crops.
Mr Stalin also directed the State Ministers and Special Monitoring Officers to
expedite relief measures for the people, who were affected due to heavy rains
in the rain-affected districts, according to another press release.
The Chief Minister spoke to the Ministers and the Special Monitoring Officers
deputed to oversee the relief and rescue works in the rain-affected districts.
He directed them to expedite relief works and ensure provision of quality food,
medical facilities in relief camps and take necessary measures to prevent crop
loss.
Mr.Stalin also held a review meeting at the State Secretary with Chief Secretary
V.Irai Anbu and senior officials on the ongoing relief measures.
Revenue Minister KKSSR Ramachandran quoting preliminary reports said
standing crops to the extent of 55,000 hectares in delta and other districts
have been submerged in rain water, of which crops in 3,500 hectares have
been damaged.
