Vijayawada, Oct 14 (UNI) The incessant rains under the influence of Deep Depression since the last few days have claimed 10 lives and damaged crops in thousands of acres in Andhra Pradesh.
The incessant rains has claimed the lives of 10 people in various districts and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to disburse compensation to the bereaved families.
He also directed the officials to extend a financial help of Rs 500 to each who are in the relief camps.
Mr Reddy asked the officials to start enumeration of loss of crop and submit the report in a week.
The incessant rains battered Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts.
Several roads, bunds of tanks and canals developed breaches and trees wee uprooted at many places in the districts.
Despite dry weather prevailed in the Coastal AP districts on Wednesday, the Sharada, Thandava and Varaha rivers are in spate in Visakhapatnam district and the Tammileru stream in West Godavari district was swollen.
The river Krishna is receiving heavy inflows following heavy rain in the catchment areas in Telangana State.
Official sources said that as per preliminary estimation, crops in over 1.25 lakh acres were damaged as flood water submerged them.
The Chief Minister held a meeting with the District Collectors through video conferencing and reviewed the rain situation.
He asked the Guntur and Krishna district Collectors to be alert in the next 24 hours.
Mr Reddy asked the Collectors to take steps to restore power supply.
He directed them to take up on war footing the filling up of breaches of canals, tanks and take up repairs of damaged roads.
The Chief Minister said that the Prakasham barrage likely to receive over 7.5 lakh cusecs of water and asked the officials concerned to be vigilant.
Ministers Mekathoti Sucharita, Botsa Satyanarayana and Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney were among those who were present.
