AP CM to inaugurate 9 control rooms for 'safe boating operations' on Jun 18

Vijayawada, Jun 16 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will inaugurate nine control rooms on June 18, being set up for ‘safe boating operations’, through video conference.
Tourism Department Managing Director Pravin Kumar in a statement here on Tuesday said that the government constituted a committee, after a major boat tragedy in the river Godavari last year, to study and recommend safety measures to be taken to prevent recurring of such incidents.
As per the committee recommendations, the Tourism department set up control rooms for boating operations at Singanapalli, Perantalapalli and Pochavaram in West Godavari district, Gandipochamma, Rajahmundry in East Godavari district, Rushikonda beach in Visakhapatnam, Nagarjuna Sagar boating point in Guntur district, Srisailam in Kurnool district, Beram park in the river Krishna here.
The Chief Minister would inaugurate the nine control rooms at around 10:30 am on Thursday, Mr Kumar said.
Each control room consists of a Manager, water resources liaison office, system operator from the Tourism department and inspection staff, life guards, swimmers and police personnel.
The control rooms ensure that the boat operators follow all the prescribed safety measures, the Tourism MD added.
