Rs 1,000 per month scheme for women heads a historic leap, ground breaking : Stalin

Chennai, Sep 14 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Thursday termed
as a historic leap and ground breaking initiative, the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai
(KMUT) Scheme offering Rs 1000 monthly assistance to women family heads to be
launched by him tomorrow.
He said the scheme, which will benefit 1.06 crore women, will reshape women's
welfare in India and will inspire many other states.
In a social media post, Mr Stalin said "Tamil Nadu takes a historic leap with the
Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme, offering Rs 1000 monthly assistance to
1,06,50,000 women family heads."
"A groundbreaking initiative reshaping women's welfare in India, which is set to
inspire many other states", he said.
Mr Stalin also tagged an interview given by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu
to an English daily on the scheme today.
He said "the visionary Finance Minister of TN, Thiru.Thangam Thenarasu, sheds
light on the pioneering KMUT scheme and our government's commitment to
improving the finances of the state".
The pioneering scheme will be launched by Mr Stalin in Kancheepuram on Friday,
the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and DMK Stalwart
C.N.Annadurai.
Kancheepuram is also the birth place of the late DMK Founder Annadurai, who
is popularly called as 'Anna' (elder brother) where Mr Stalin will launch this unique
scheme named after DMK Patriarch and late CM M.Karunanidhi.
The Rs 1,000 per month scheme was one of the key promises made by the DMK
in the run up to the 2021 Assembly polls, in which it romped back to power after a
gap of ten years with a resounding majority and Mr Stalin became the Chief Minister
for the first time.
It is noteworthy that the scheme is being launched in the centenary year of
Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar (former CM and DMK Patriarch M.Karunanidhi),
Mr Stalin said.
