1.06 cr to benefit under Rs 1,000 per month scheme for heads of women households : Stalin

Chennai, Sep 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Monday
announced that about 1.06 crore women would be benefitted under the
pioneering Rs 1,000 per month scheme for women heads of families
to be launched by him on September 15.
The is one of the flagship schemes of the DMK government and will be
a game changer in the socio-economic life of women of the State.
In his address after reviewing the arrangements made for the launch
event, Mr Stalin said Rs 12,000 crore will be allotted for the scheme
annually, though Rs 7,000 crore was allotted by the DMK government
while announcing in the budget in March this year.
He said 1.06 crore women were identified as eligible beneficiaries under
the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (women’s basic income) scheme,
which Mr Stalin will launch in Kancheepuram on September 15, the birth
anniversary of former Chief Minister and DMK Stalwart C.N.Annadurai.
Kancheepuram is also the birth place of the late DMK Founder Annadurai,
popularly called as 'Anna' (elder brother) where Mr Stalin will launch the
scheme named after DMK Patriarch and late CM M.Karunanidhi.
Mr Stalin said a total of 1.63 crore applications were received, of which
1,06,50,000 have been short-listed as beneficiaries under the scheme.
“All arrangements are put in place to ensure that all eligible women will
have Rs 1,000 credited into their bank accounts from September 15,” he
said, adding, the amount will subsequently be directly credited into the
bank accounts of these eligible women every month.
He also said ATM cards would be issued in certain numbers initially and
will have to be issued to all. But all those selected for the scheme would
be provided with the amount on September 15 itself instead of waiting for
the ATM cards.
The government will ensure that there will be no problem for the women
beneficiaries in withdrawing the cash,” Mr. Stalin said.
