TN: Gold ornaments worth Rs 1.53 Cr seized from woman passenger at Airport

Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu), Aug 14 (UNI) Sleuths of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs department seized 2.291 kilogram of Gold ornaments valued at Rs 1.53 crore from a woman passenger arrived at Tiruchirapalli international airport from Malaysia late on Tuesday.
Customs officials said here on Wednesday that a team of AIU officials conducted a search on passengers arriving from Kuala Lumpur through Air India Express flight.
On examination, the officials found a woman passenger possessing the gold in the form of chains, bangles and rings. The golden jewels, of 24-karat and 22-karat purity, were confiscated as she attempted to smuggle them to India without paying customs duty.
