Telangana CM instructs officials to be on alert as more rains expected in next two-days

Hyderabad, July 24 (UNI) In the wake of IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) warning that the Telangana state will receive heavy rains in the next two days and threat of very heavy rains is looming large, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (known as KCR) said that the government is ready to face any eventuality and instructed the officials to be on alert.
The state was already flooded with heavy rains for two weeks and the canals, water bodies and ponds will overflow in heavy rains in the next two days, KCR, who conducted a high-level meeting on heavy rains and floods situation at Pragati Bhavan here on Saturday night, said.
"Appealing people to be on alert and adopt self-protection measures, he said requested People to cancel their unnecessary travel plans" he said.
The river Godavari has been overflowing from its birthplace at Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra to Bay of Bengal and the tributaries are also flooding, the CM said that it is testing time for the state administration to protect people from the natural calamity.
He said that the entire administration should be on alert and take up rescue operations ensuring no loss of life like in the recent floods.
He said that the government is ready to extend all kinds of assistance.
He said that all the departments extending emergency services along with the other wings which are assisting in the heavy rains should not leave their works places at any cost.
He instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to issue circulars in this regard immediately.
The Chief minister warned the threat of increasing flood levels in the Godavari river is more from Sunday afternoon due to incessant rains and the IMD warning.
All Ministers, MLAs and people representatives in Godavari river catchment area should be on alert, he asked the officials of all departments to coordinate among themselves and ready to shift people from the submerged areas to the safe places.
The CM said that he already spoke to district Collectors and gave suggestions. The heavy rains are likely to continue till August first week.
He said that concrete measures should be taken in the more flood prone and submerged areas in Ramannagudem, Eturunagaram and other places around Bhadrachalam.
The CM instructed the Chief Secretary to keep two choppers ready in addition to the one kept already in the state capital. One chopper will be kept in Mulugu and the other one in Kothagudem.
Health camps will be conducted in Khammam and Kothagudem, the CM instructed Disaster Management Secretary Rahul Bojja to keep ready NDRF and rescue teams for emergency purposes.
The CM made it clear that floods coming from above Godavari will be released by lifting the gates instantly.
He instructed Rajath Kumar “Release water outflows which are equal to inflows and ensure no stoppage of water”.
The CM suggested Medical and health, Panchayat Raj, Energy, R and B, Municipal Administration and Mission Bhagiratha wings should be on alert.
He instructed the DGP to ensure all police officials from SI and CI and also staff in the headquarters stay in their offices.
The Chief minister examined the new software “Flood forecast and management system” developed by the state irrigation department.
