Pondy: 123 TPDK volunteers arrested

Puducherry, April 24 (UNI) As many as 123 volunteers of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar kazhagam (TPDK) were arrested when they attempted to burn an effigy of Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Sunday.

The TPDK had earlier announced that they would show black flags to Amit Shah to protest the alleged imposition of Hindi, rise in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders and introduction of NEET. Accordingly, led by party president Veeramohan, the volunteers gathered at the Peryar statue junction and shouted slogans “Go Back Amit Shah” holding black flags in their hands. Then they took out an effigy of Shah and tried to set it on fire. Police intervened and prevented this resulting in an altercation between the police and party volunteers and traffic on the road was severely affected.

Hyderabad, April 24 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a communication stipulating that every individual employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or establishment, eligible to vote in elections to the House of the People or the Legislative Assembly of a State, shall be granted a paid holiday under Section 135 B of the Representation of People Act.
