Puducherry, Nov 9 (UNI) Former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy has urged the NR Congress-BJP government to provide a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each to all the rain-affected families in the Union Territory.
In an audio clip sent to the media here on Monday night, he alleged that Chief Minister N Rangaswamy or officials were not showing any interest in redressing the grievances of the rain- affected people here and their rehabilitation.
Mr Narayanasamy said it is not proper to hold local body election in the UT without providing reservation to the Backward Class people.
However, Mr Rangaswamy, who comes from BC community signed the file to hold the local body election without providing reservation to the BC people.
This is against social justice, the former Chief Minister said, adding that the government should hold the local body election after the caste-wise census.
He said Lt.Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan had approved the file to provide ten kilograms of free rice and two kg sugar for Diwali for all ration card holders.
But, there is an order from the Union government that only cash be remitted to the bank account of the beneficiaries and no commodity be provided, he said and wondered whether the Lt.Governor had violated the Union government's order.
Has the Lt.Governor got powers to violate a Central Government order, Mr Narayanasamy asked.
Stating that the Chief Minister had reduced the VAT on petrol and Diesel prices following compulsion from the BJP, the Senior Congress leader said Mr Rangaswamy should make it clear to the people how he is going to compensate the revenue loss because of the reduction of prices.
A democratically elected government should serve the people and there in no need to bow to an alliance partner due to pressure, he added.
