CM urges Centre to withdraw petrol, diesel price hike

Puducherry, Jun 25 (UNI) Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Thursday urged the Union government to withdraw the petrol and diesel price hike.
In an audio clip sent to the media here, the Chief Minister said that for the 19th day in a row, the price of petrol and diesel was hiked.
When crude oil costs 28 dollars for a barrel in the International market, the sale of petrol and diesel at Rs 76 and Rs 73 respectively in Puducherry could not be accepted.
He said that he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to withdraw the petrol and diesel price hike and also to extend the free rice scheme to the BPL families for another three months commencing from June.
Mr Narayanasamy said the ICMR had given permission for Antigen test for Coronavirus patients with which the result will be available in 25 to 30 minutes time, while the RTPCR test will take 24 to 36 hours to get the result.
Further, Antigen test will cost only Rs 450 per test while, RTPCR test will cost Rs 4500.
The officials are advised to increase the number of tests which is feasible. Presently, Puducherry is the third state in the maximum number of tests being conducted, he added.
The Chief Minister said that the Executive committee Meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority will meet here on Friday under the Chief Secretary to review the works done so far.
He said 70 persons were affected by COVID-19 in Koonichampet alone because of the mask manufacturing company there.
It is due to the negligence of the proprietor, he said, adding that though the company was closed the Collector was advised to register a case against him and initiate action.
Appealing to the people to lend their cooperation to the government in its efforts to contain the spread of the virus, Mr Narayanasamy said that stringent action will be initiated against the violators.
