Hyderabad, Oct 27 (UNI) Union Minister for Coal and Mines and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy has expressed concern over the decline of traditional craftsmen in the country, stressing the need for urgent support to revive the crafts sector and protect associated livelihoods.
“Craftsmen are disappearing across India, which is also impacting communities that rely on their work for employment. It’s crucial to encourage and sustain these artisans, as they have historically supported rural economies,” Reddy stated.
To address this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced the Vishwakarma Yojana, aimed at promoting handicrafts and providing essential support to craftsmen.
Speaking to the media after laying the foundation stone for a community hall at Lower Tankbund in the Kavadiguda division, Musheerabad Constituency, on Sunday, Reddy highlighted how the initiative provides skill training, equipment, and financial assistance to millions of people nationwide.
In addition to these efforts, Reddy noted that new Dobighats are being established in the Secunderabad constituency in collaboration with the Rajaka Sangam. “As an MLA, I worked to create infrastructure at Dhobi Ghats, and now I continue that commitment as a Member of Parliament,” he said.
The Rajaka Sangam requested Reddy’s assistance in constructing a Dobighat, community hall, and other facilities near Tankbund. "We have performed Bhumi Puja for the Dhobi Ghat construction, allocating Rs. 26 lakh from the Parliament funds, and I have instructed contractors to expedite the project."
Reddy assured that the Modi government would continue to stand by artisans. “In the coming days, we will provide skill training, tools, and financial aid to thousands more to ensure they can sustain and grow their crafts,” he affirmed.
