CPI asks AP CM to exert pressure on Centre to reduce prices of petrol, diesel

CPI asks AP CM to exert pressure on Centre to reduce prices of petrol, diesel

Vijayawada, Jun 23 (UNI) The CPI has asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to exert pressure on the Central government to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel.

In a letter to the Chief Minister here on Tuesday, CPI state Secretary K Rama Krishna said that the Centre had hiked the prices of petrol and diesel by levying excise tax for the last 17 days.

"The diesel price has been hiked by Rs.9.07 and petrol price by Rs.8.49 during the last 27 days.

The prices of petrol and diesel mounted to Rs.83.21 and Rs.77.97 a litre respectively in the state.

The hike in price of diesel has put Rs 3,900 crore additional burden on the State owned APSRTC", the CPI leader said.

Adding woes to the consumers, the AP State government had hiked the VAT by Rs 2.76 paise on petrol and Rs,3.07 paise on diesel, he regretted.

“Since Mr Reddy is extending support to the NDA government on all issues, he should exert pressure on the Centre to reduce prices of petrol and diesel by slashing excise tax”, he said.

Mr Rama Krishna asked the Chief Minister to demand the Centre to bring the prices of petroleum products under the purview of GST. At the same time, the State government should also reduce the VAT on the petrol and diesel, he demanded.
