Film director, producer Sachidanandan dies of cardiac arrest

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 19 (UNI) Malayalam Film director, producer and screenwriter KR Sachidanandan, popularly known as Sachy, died of cardiac arrest at Jubilee Mission Hospital in Thrissur on Thursday.

The 48-year-old Sachy was shifted to the Jubilee Mission Hospital from a hospital in Palakkad on Tuesday due to the complications following the hip replacement surgery done a few days ago.

He co-wrote films with Sethu as a writer duo known as Sachi-Sethu.

Their works included Chocolate (2007), Robinhood (2009), Makeup Man (2011) and Seniors (2012).

Sachy made his independent debut as a screenwriter with the 2012 film Run Baby Run and his directorial debut with Anarkali (2015). He co-produced the film Chettayees (2012) under his company Thakkali Films.

It was followed by Ramaleela (2017), Sherlock Toms (2017) and Driving Licence (2019). His last film was Ayyappanum Koshiyum (2020).

Sachy was born and brought up at Kodungalloor in Thrissur district of Kerala. He completed his bachelor's degree in Commerce from SNM College, Maliankara and an LLB from Government Law College, Ernakulam.

He practised as a lawyer in Criminal Law and Constitutional Law for eight years in the High Court of Kerala. During his time at college, Sachy was active in his college film society and theatre, directing several plays.

Gold smuggling case: Court dismisses bail plea of Swapna Suresh

Kochi, Aug 13 (UNI) The Special Court for Economic Offences here on Thursday rejected the bail application filed by Swapna Suresh, one of the main accused in the gold smuggling case, terming her a 'highly influential lady.'
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Economic Offences) Deepu C observed that the accused had connections with higher officials at the UAE consulate even after leaving the job.
