Mullapperiyar dam likely to open 10 am

Idukki (Kerala), Aug 5 (UNI) With the water level of Mullapperiyar dam in Kerala reaching 137.05 ft, the spill way shutters are expected to be raised at 10 am to release excess rain water on Friday, sources said.
The Iduuki District administration was informed by the Tamil Nadu Government operating the dam that water is likely to be released in view of heavy rain in the catchment areas, the sources said.
In November 2021, spillway shutters of Mullaperiyar dam were opened when the water level touched 141 ft. The maximum capacity of the dam is 142 ft.
The Pinarayi Vijayan Government has already urged Tamil Nadu to follow the Rule Curve and limit the water level in the dam at 137 ft.
