Bengaluru, Aug 1 (UNI) Amid continued Congress infighting between DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah factions, a third name has been thrown into the ring for chief minister's post if the party comes to power next year.
The name of veteran Congress leader SR Patil was suggested for the chief minister's post by former central minister Veerappa Moily on Monday.
Moily said Patil is the most appropriate CM candidate as he is an ideal leader and statesman. "His name also was suggested by me for the coveted Karnataka Congress president's post in the past. He is an able Congress leader," he said.
An infighting has been raging between supporters of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, who want their respective leaders to assume the charge of chief minister's gaddi. Amidst this, Siddaramaiah's supporters have organised Siddaramotsava on the occasion of 75th birthday celebrations of Siddaramaiah at Davanagere to showcase his strength.
A septuagenarian, Patil had served as IT-BT Minister in Siddaramaiah-led Congress government from 2013 to 2018.
He also served as the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
