Chennai, July 17 (UNI) Former AIADMK Minister M.R.Vijayabhaskar, who was arrested from
a resort at Thirissur in Kerala in connection with the alleged Rs 100 crore land grab case in
Karur, was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday, even as the CB-CID police arrested
a cop for acting as his accomplice.
Mr Vijayabhaskar, who remained incognito after his anticipatory bail plea was twice dismissed
by the Karur District Sessions Court, was arrested along with his associate Praveen by the police from a resort in Thrissur by tracing his mobile phone signals.
After his arrest, the CB-CID police conducted raids at his premises and that of his aides and was believed to have seized some important documents.
The former Transport Minister, who was brought to Karur from Kerala, was grilled at the CB-CID police that stretched past midnight.
He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate-I Court in Karur early this morning, who remanded him and Praveen in Judicial Custody for two weeks.
After hearing lengthy arguments from both the sides, the court remanded Mr. Vijayabhaskar and Praveen, who was cited as a key accused in the case, in judicial custody till July 31.
Mr. Vijayabhaskar later taken to the Central Prison in Tiruchi and Praveen to the sub-jail in Kulithalai.
Earlier, the CB-CID police took Mr. Vijayabhaskar to the Government Medical College Hospital for a medical checkup.
Talking to reporters outside the hospital while being escorted to the prison, the former Minister that the case foisted against him due to political vendetta and that he would face it legally and get
justice.
A large number of AIADMK cadres gathered in front of the CB-CID office and the Court complex and shouted slogans against the DMK government condemning his arrest.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the CB-CID police have arrested Villlivakkam Police Inspector Prithiviraj today for acting as the formr Minister's aide in the land grab case.
Prithiviraj was arrested in Chennai and was being questioned.
