'Khadi Shirt' presented to Kerala CM

Thiruvananthapuram, June 10 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was presented a 'Khadi Shirt' as part of popularising Khadi products and reviving the traditional sector without losing the uniqueness of the age-old heritage fabric.
The 'Khadi Shirt' was presented to the Chief Minister by Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board Vice Chairman P Jayarajan at a function organised as part of a campaign to encourage government employees, teachers and co-operative workers to wear Khadi once in a week.
The sales of Khadi products have increased after the Left Government issued a circular advising Government employees to use Khadi products once in a week, the Vice Chairman said in a press release on Thursday.
The Khadi Board has set a target to raise its sales turnover from Rs 50 crore to Rs 150 crore during this financial year, he said.
The Khadi Board has introduced new fashion dresses of variety designs in collaboration with the Institute of Fashion Technology Kerala to attract the new generation to khadi.
Khadi showroom in Vanchiyoor, which offers the services of expert designers to the requirements of customers, sold products worth Rs 25 lakh within two months.
The Board is also planning to introduce a variety of products in the next Onam festival to increase its market share, Board Secretary Dr KA Ratheesh said during the occasion.
