Chennai, Dec 31 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin today
extended the lockdown restrictions in the State till January 10, by
imposing additional curbs in view of the spread of the Omicron
variant of the COVID.
An official release here said, Mr Stalin, after holding discussions with
medical and health experts and other department officials, who have
predicted spread of COVID due to congregation of people during the
festival season, said that the existing ban an on social, cultural and
political meetings would continue, while ordering closure of of all play
schools and nursery classes for LKG and UKG.
While physical classes for standard one to eight students were banned till
January 10, the government also announced postponement of all trade
fairs and book fairs, while the existing restrictions already announced would
continue.
Classes for nine to 12 would continue by following the existing Standard
Operating Procedures and the restrictions imposed on temples and places
of worships would continue.
Hotels, restaurants and hostels were allowed to function with 50 per cent
capacity which would be applicable for entertainment and amusement parks.
While restricting a maximum of 100 people for marriages, the government said
not more than 50 people would be allowed in funerals and 50 per cent people
to be allowed in all textile and jewellery showrooms.
Apart from allowing passengers within the seating requirements in all public
transport services, 50 per cent passengers were allowed to travel in Chennai
Metro Rail services and also in multiplexes, cinemas and theatres.
Sporting events would be allowed in open stadias by following the COVID
protocols and 50 per cent capacity of spectators in indoor stadiums, beauty
parlours, salons and spas.
The government also advised the people to take their due dose of vaccination
and follow the COVID guidelines to prevent the virus spread and directed the
authorities to ramp up testing.
