Vaccine doses for 15-18 age group from Jan 3 : TN Minister

Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma.Subramanian on Sunday
announced that about 33.20 lakh children in the age group of 15-18 years will be
administered COVID vaccine jabs form January three.
Talking to reporters here, the Minister said about 9.78 lakh frontline and healthcare
workers and those above 60 years of age would be administered booster doses from
January 10.
Mr Subramanian, who inspected the 16th mega vaccination drive at a centre in the
city, said 8.14 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far in the State.
Stating that Tamil Nadu stood first among all the states in the vaccination drive,
including pregnant women, he said till date 84.87 per cent of the people have
been administered the first dose, and 55.85 per cent have received both doses.
He said the state has a stock of about 80 lakh vaccines and appealed to the people
the make use of the 16th mega vaccination drive in 50,000 centres across the state
and take their jabs, with the priority being for those who were yet to get their second
dose.
The government has targetted to inoculate 20 lakh people in today's camp.
About the Omicron cases in the State, Mr Subramanian said the total cases in the
State remained at 34. A total of 12 people infected with the Omicron variant have
been discharged after treatment and the remaining 22 people were being treated
at government and private hospitals.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister M K Stalin inspected the facilities being up in place to
treat those infected with Omicron variant.
Mr Stalin, accompanied by officials, visited the Rajiv Gandhi Government General
Hospital and inspected the bed facilities and the oxygen stock to ensure adequate
treatment for those infected with Omicron.
