COVID-19: Tamil Nadu reports 5,951 fresh infections, 107 deaths

Chennai, Aug 25 (UNI) The number of COVID-19 positive cases mounted to 3,91,303 in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, with the State registering 5,951 fresh cases while the death toll rose to 6,721 as 107 more patients died of the infection.

Health department in its bulletin said of the 107 deaths, 65 were reported in government hospitals and 42 in private hospitals.

Of the 5,951 total cases today, 5,937 were indigenous cases and 14 were imported cases – those who returned from abroad and other states by air and by road.

The total number of active cases stood at 52,128.
A total of 70,221 samples were tested in the last 24 hours by RT-PCR, taking the total number of samples tested till date to 43,46,861.

With 6,998 patients discharged today, a record number of 3,32,454 patients have recovered from the infection till date.

Chennai recorded 1,270 cases today, taking the total cases to 1,27,949.

The neighbouring district of Chengalpattu recorded 321 cases, Thiruvallur 305 while Kancheepuram reported 214 cases.

Hyderabad, April 24 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a communication stipulating that every individual employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or establishment, eligible to vote in elections to the House of the People or the Legislative Assembly of a State, shall be granted a paid holiday under Section 135 B of the Representation of People Act.
