TN CMO Official dies of COVID-19, Stalin condoles

Chennai, June 17 (UNI) A senior official in the office of

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami died

of COVID-19 today, following which Opposition DMK

President M K Stalin urged the state government to

ensure safety of all its officers and employees working

in various departments.

Police sources said Mr Damodharan, Private Secretary

in the CMO, tested positive for coronavirus and was

undergoing treatment at the hospital.

He succumbed to the virus this morning.

Condoling his death, Mr Stalin in a tweet, said he was

anguished to hear about the death of Damodharan

due to corona.

He said the government should ensure the safety of all

officers and employees working in the State Secretariat

and other departments across the State.

He said adequate protection kits should be given to

all the police personnel, doctors, nurses, healthcare

staff, sanitary workers and others in the frontline of

COVID-19 duty to ensure that such deaths do not

recur.

Tamil Nadu recorded the highest single day casualty

of 49 yesterday, taking the total number of fatalities

to 528 and the positive cases past the 48,000-mark.
