UT records 175 new COVID positive cases, three Coronavirus deaths  in  past 24 hours

Puducherry, Oct 21 (UNI) As many as 175 more persons were tested positive for the Coronavirus and three patients died in the Union Territory since the last 24 hours while the total number of active cases stood at 4,026 now.
According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here on Wednesday, 138 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 21 in Karaikal region, and 8 each in Yanam and Mahe regions.
As many as 242 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours. Of them, 173 patients were from Puducherry region, 38 from Karaikal region, 7 from Yanam region and 24 from Mahe region.
One death each were reported from Puducherry, Karaikal and Mahe regions.
Presently, 1,328 patients were being treated in Puducherry region, 58 in Karaikal region, 44 in Yanam and 54 in Mahe region.
Another 2,542 persons diagnosed positive for the virus are under home isolation and taking treatment in all the four regions of UT.
So far, 33,622 persons were infected by the virus and of which 29,016 people were treated and discharged and 580 patients died.
There were 4,026 patients at present undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.
Director of Medical Services DMS Dr Mohan Kumar in a Whatsapp post said, of the 4,033 swab sample tests conducted on Tuesday, 175 persons tested positive for COVID-19.
The case fatality rate in the UT is 1.73 per cent and recovery rate is 86.30 per cent.
A 73-year-old man died in the Government Medical College here while a 54-year-old man died in the Karaikal Government Hospital and a 78-year-old woman succumbed in the Mahe Government hospital.
All of them died due to Covid Pneumonia and ARDS. While, both the men were having comorbidity of Hypertension and Diabetes, the woman was having Systemic Hypertension, Bronchial Asthma, Coronary Artery Disease and Diabetes mellitus, Dr Kumar said.
