Kerala registers 63 new Omicron cases

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 18 (UNI) Kerala reported 63 new cases of the Omicron variant on Tuesday, taking the number of infections to 591, Health Minister Veena George said.
The Minister said 15 people tested positive in Thrissur, 14 in Thiruvananthapuram, 10 in Kollam, 8 in Ernakulam, 4 in Malappuram, 3 in Idukki, 2 in Palakkad, 1 each in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Kozhikode. In addition, 4 people from Tamil Nadu who arrived here from various countries also tested positive, she added.
"Out of 591 cases, 401 reached Kerala from low risk countries, 101 from high risk countries and 70 contracted the virus through local contacts. Nineteen cases were from other neighbouring states."
