Kerala reports 23 COVID deaths, 5,042 new +ve cases

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 5 (UNI) Kerala reported 23 deaths due to COVID-19 on Monday whereas 5,042 people tested positive for the virus, 4,640 patients have recovered from the disease and 84,873 patients are under treatment.
"Of those diagnosed today, 4,338 people were infected through contact and the source of infection in 450 cases was unknown. Total 110 healthcare workers were among those infected. 29 persons have come back from foreign countries and 102 from other states," a press release said.
Twenty three recent deaths in the State have been confirmed as due to Covid. The deceased are Alphonse (72) & Sarasamma (72) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Padmanabhan (82) from Kollam district; Fathima Beevi (75), Robert (74), Prabhakaran (69) & Sarangadharan (72) from Alappuzha district, George (86) & Joseph Chacko (63) from Kottayam district; P M Abdul Salam (50), K M Bawa (68), K S Sheela (48), Thevan (71) & Hamsa (74) from Ernakulam district; Muhammad Yusuf (75), Balakrishnan (83) & Aleyamma (67) from Thrissur district, Kunjappa (70) & Muraleedharan (68) from Malappuram district, Raghavan (68) from Kozhikode district, and Kalyani (75), Abdul Majeed (76) & P P Usman (69) from Kannur district. This takes the Covid related deaths in the State to 859.
