Kerala reports 16 COVID deaths, 4,696 new +ve cases: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 20 (UNI) Kerala reported 16 deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday whereas 4,696 people tested positive to the virus, 2,751 patients have recovered from the same and 39,415 patients are under treatment, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
"Currently, 2,22,179 people are under observation in the State -- 1,96,261 are under home or institutional quarantine and 25,918 in hospitals. Total 3,154 people were admitted to the hospitals today. So far, 95,702 persons have recovered from Covid in the State," the Minister said in a press release here this evening.
Of the newly reported positive cases today, 4,425 cases were of local transmission and the contact source of 459 have not been traceable. Of those diagnosed today, 44 have come back from foreign countries and 137 from other states. Total 80 healthcare workers were also infected by the disease.
