16th Finance Commission impressed with Telangana development plans: Dr Arvind

Hyderabad, Sep 10 (UNI) The Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission, Dr Arvind Panagariya, expressed that the Commission was highly impressed with Telangana's development plans.
Speaking at a press conference held at Praja Bhavan, Begumpet, here on Tuesday, Dr Panagariya explained that the Commission's mandate is to make recommendations on the division of tax revenues between the Centre and the states for the five-year period from 2026-27 to 2030-31. This includes deciding how funds will be allocated between the Centre and 28 states, as well as how these funds will be distributed among the states.
The Finance Commission also makes recommendations on local body grants for panchayats and municipal organisations, disaster relief funds, and other sector-specific or state-specific grants. During the visit to Telangana, the Commission held extensive discussions and found the state's approach to urban and rural development particularly forward-thinking.
