Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 25 (UNI) Amid the fear of the third wave of COVID-19 in India, the number of new infections driven by the Omicron variant is rising rapidly, Dr Naresh Purohit, Advisor, National Communicable Disease Control Programm, has said.
"In the next seven to 10 days, the number of people infecting with Omicron variant of COVID-19 is expected to increase as preliminary evidence suggests that it is more transmissible than other variants," Dr Purohit said while speaking at a webinar titled "Celebrating Holiday Amidst Omicron," organised by the Kannur Medial College, Anjarakandy on Saturday.
"World is witnessing the fourth surge of corona cases and the overall positivity is 6.1 percent. As per recent report Maharashtra has recorded a maximum of 108 Omicron cases, followed by Delhi at 79, Gujarat 43, Telangana 38, Kerala 37, Tamil Nadu 34 and Karnataka 31," he said.
