MLIRC honours Mesopotamian Campaign heroes

Belagavi, Oct 29 (UNI) Troops of The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre marked the 106th Sharqat Day with a solemn ceremony at their headquarters in Belagavi, paying homage to the soldiers of the 114 Marhattas who displayed exceptional bravery in the Mesopotamian Campaign of 1918.
This annual event honours those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the unit’s legacy was immortalised through the prestigious Battle Honour “Sharqat.”
The observance began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Sharqat War Memorial, led by Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee, Commandant of The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (LIRC). The solemn event saw Veteran Officers and all ranks come together to remember the fallen heroes who built the Regiment’s legacy on the battlefield with their courage, valour, and sacrifice.
