Pregnant minor girl dies after consuming pesticide in TN

Tiruchirapalli, Jul 08 (UNI) A 17-year-old girl who was six months pregnant died after consuming pesticide, after a youth with whom she had an affair, refused to marry her at Kavarappatti village near Manapparai in the district on Wednesday.
Police said the victim fell in love with her relative Ramki (22), a native of Bhagawanpatti village in Pudukottai district. The accused had sexually exploited the girl many times on the pretext of marrying her.
As he refused to marry, the girl's parents lodged a complaint with All Women Police in Manapparai on which the police booked him under various sections of the IPC and also under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
Ramki surrendered before the police.
Upset over the relationship, the girl consumed pesticide and was rushed to the Manapparai government hospital, where she died without responding to the treatment.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchirapalli range Z Annie Vijaya and Superintendent of Police Ziaul Haque held inquiries. Further investigations were on.
