Visakhapatnam, July 16 (UNI) The sleuths of Anti-Corruption Wing of CBI, Visakhapatnam, have arrested a plant protection officer here while demanding and accepting a bribe from a firm for issuing favourable certificate to customs for release of import/export consignments of agricultural commodities.
In a release on Saturday, the CBI said that we have received a reliable information that R.Padam Singh, Plant Protection Officer at Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage Department in Visakhapatnam has been demanding and collecting huge amounts of bribes from the CHAs, Fumigators and Shipping Agents for issuing Phytosanitary Certificates for exporting the goods and consignment release orders for imported consignments.
The information also revealed that on Friday, Padam Singh, demanded illegal gratification from Athi Bulli Reddiyya alias Murali, Regional Manager, M/s Exim Logistics Private Limited, Visakhapatnam for clearing of pending application and for issuing favourable certificate to Customs for release of import/export consignments of agricultural commodities and Reddiyya would be meeting Padam Singh in his office to pay the bribe amount, the release said.
