Bengaluru, Sep 2 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing in MUDA land transaction case, involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife Parvathi, till September 12 and extended the interim stay on the trial court proceedings in the case till then.
Justice Nagaprasanna, emphasizing the urgency of wrapping up the proceedings, said there would no further adjournments and set the next hearing date for September 12.
The MUDA scam case involves allegations of corruption and irregular allocation of land by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to Siddaramaiah's wife.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Siddaramaiah, sought permission from the High Court to make rejoinder submissions on September 12, following Advocate General Tushar Mehta's arguments.
While accepting his plea, Justice Nagaprasanna stressed that the matter must not be prolonged, reinforcing the court’s resolve to conclude the hearing promptly.
Senior Advocate K G Raghavan, representing the petitioner, presented arguments questioning the legality and transparency of the land de-notification and subsequent sale involving Siddaramaiah.
He argued that the complexity of the transactions justifies a deeper probe, highlighting that potential fraud, often concealed, must be carefully investigated.
Raghavan called for an inquiry into the alleged violations under the Prevention of Corruption Act, stressing that any misconduct, no matter how minor, demands examination to uphold public administration integrity.
Raghavan emphasized that the implications of the case extend beyond individual actions, impacting public trust in governance.
