Puducherry, Jul 22 (UNI) A government resolution, urging the Centre to withdraw its proposal to privatize the Power Distribution Company (Discom) in the Union Territory was unanimously adopted in the Assembly.
Moving the resolution, Minister for Electricity R Kamalakannan said the decision of the Union government without consulting the Congress-DMK government is a one-sided one which was opposed by 3,000 employees of the department.
The electricity department is one which is functioning efficiently and if privatized the power tariff will be skyrocketed and the free power supply to the farmers and poor people will be stopped and hence, the decision of the Centre be withdrawn, he said.
