Telangana CM requests Centre to withdraw Electricity Amendment Bill 2022

Hyderabad, Sep 12 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday requested the Central government to withdraw the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 which will affect the interest of farming community and poor people in the states.
Speaking on a short discussion on “Central Electricity Bill-Ramifications” in the house on the second day of the Assembly session, Rao said that the power was one of the tools to assess the development in the world.
The state has overcome the power shortage within five-and-half months by implementing effective measures. Now Telangana was the only state to implement 24x7 quality power to all the sectors including agriculture sector in the country, KCR said.
He said that the NDA government led by BJP at the Centre and TRS Government in the state almost the same period came to power in respective places.
According to Central Electricity Authority (CEA), during the last 8 years, the per-capita power consumption of Telangana has increased to 2,126 units per annum in 2022 from 970 units in 2014 by increasing 1,156 units.
At the same time, the per-capita power consumption of the country has increased to 1255 units in 2022 from 957 units in 2014 by increasing only 298 units. It shows how the Centre was dealing with the power sector, the Chief Minister said.
He said that according to the International Electricity Agency (IEA), in per-capita consumption, India Rank was 104 out of 140 countries.
Elaborating India’s power details, Rao said, the installed capacity of the country was 4, 40,178 MWs. Of them Base load (continually available power) was 2,42,890 MWs. India’s peak load which was reported this month was 2,10,793 MWs.
