Bengaluru, Aug 2 (UNI) Amidst BJP workers' anger over party youth leader Praveen Kumar's murder and state visit of AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the city for two days, beginning Wednesday night.
This was announced by Shah's office in a release posted on Twitter.
According to the tour schedule, Shah will arrive at Taj West End Hotel on August 3 night and next morning he will attend state government's "Sankalp Se Siddhi" event at the hotel.
Shah's visit coincides with AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi's visit to Karnataka. As per latest updates on the Congress leader, he has already arrived in Hubballi and was received by local leaders at the airport.
Tonight it is expected that Rahul would chair the election campaign committee and discuss about next year's state polls and organisational matters.
Rahul will also visit Chitradurga's Murugarajendra Mutt, a prominent Lingayat institution in the region, on Wednesday and meet Sri Shivamurthy Muruga Sharanu and seers of various mutts.
Shah's visit also coincides with the anger of BJP workers, with some of them resigning enmasse, over the death of BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru, who was mercilessly hacked to death on July 26 night by a group of men with sharp weapons at Bellare in Dakshina Kannada district.
The angered party workers had also sought resignations of Home Minister Araga Jnanendra and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, for failing to potect Hindu activists in the state, and raising slogans for a Yogi Adityanath model of governance in the state.
THe protesting BJP protestors nearly toppled Karnataka party president Naleen Kumar Kateel's car when he had reached the village of Praveen where his body was kept for people to pay their condolences.
This unprovoked spurt of raw emotions led Bommai to announce cancellation of his regime's anniversary celebrations on July 28 at a midnight media conference.
However, Bommai and other prominent party leaders including central ministers from state Pralhad Joshi and Shobha Karandlaje have briefed Shah over the entire issue and explained to him the threats party workers faced in the coastal Karnataka, which is neighbouring to Muslim-dominated North Kerala.
They also thanked Shah for promptly responding with an NIA investigation into Praveen's murder.
After receiving Shah at HAL Airport on Wednesday night, Bommai and Kateel are expected to spend time with him next morning and brief him about the latest political developments in the state.
