Neither APMC nor MSP will be abolished: V Muraleedharan

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 3 (UNI) The Centre has clearly stated that neither the Agricultural Produce and Livestock Market Committee (APMC) nor the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will be abolished, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and External Affairs V Muraleedharan said on Saturday.
"Both will continue and it will be purely the choice of the farmers to sell their produce wherever they want. Further, the Centre has increased the MSP of six Rabi crops which itself is a strong message on the continuation of the MSP based system," the Minister told a press conference here.
Under the agriculture reform Acts, farmers will now be able to sell their produce outside the market and that too at a price of their choice. Earlier, farmers had to pay tax on selling agriculture produce in the mandis, but now they would not have to pay any tax for selling the crops outside the mandis.
