One dies, 3 employees falls ill as ammonia gas leaked from a pipe in Agro factory

Kurnool, Jun 27 (UNI) A General Manager of an Agro factory died and three employees fell ill after they inhaled the ammonia gas leaked from a pipe at Nadyala town in this district on Saturday.

Police said the General Manager Srinivasa Rao died after inhaling the gas.

Police said that about two tonnes of Ammonia gas was stocked in a tanker in the factory. Due to cracks in the pipe, the gas suddenly started leaking.

Noticing the gas leak, the other employees fled from the factory after getting panicked.

Fire prevention personnel swung into action to plug the gas leak.

District Collector G Veerapandian, Superintendent of Police K Pakkirappa and other officials visited the factory.

The Collector told the media that three employees who fell ill after inhaling the gas, were out of danger.

Steps were being taken on a war-footing to plug the gas leak, Mr Veerapandian added.
